Mgarr ix-xini, Sannat, Gozo
Mgarr Ix-Xini bay is a secluded pebbly beach that is located in a beautiful natural valley and only accessible through villages like Xewkija and Sannat.
It’s ideal place for swimming, snorkelling and best of all it’s a great place for divers. Mgarr Ix-Xini has kept its natural beauty and it’s very quiet and relaxing place to be and also fantastic spot for underwater photography. Along the sides are rocks from which you can choose to swim straight into water. Steps are provided although most prefer just to jump in and enjoy the fresh crystal clear waters.
Mgarr Ix-Xini used to be a hiding place for the Knights Galleys and was also used by the invading Turks to load captive Gozitans onto their ships in the worst raid on the island in 1551.
At the end of the 16th century a tower was built to safeguard the inlet. This tower now is known as It-Torri tal - Mgarr Ix-Xini. It was built by Mederico Blondel an engineer of the Order of Saint John. And these days Mgarr Ix-Xini Tower is being managed by Wirt Ghawdex through the agreement with the Ministry for Gozo.
We hope you enjoy your stay on our beautiful islands.
