Ghajn Tuffieha also known as Riviera Bay. Ghajn Tuffieha means‘Apple’s Eye’ which is a red beach located in the east of Golden Bay is just five minute walk and divided by natural rock it’s much more popular for locals since it’s much quieter than Golden Bay . To reach Ghajn Tuffieha Bay you must go through some 200 flight of stairs called IL-Bajja Tat-Tarag which literally means stairs of the bay! On top of the cliffs west of Ghajn Tuffieha Bay there is the very old defence tower was built in 1637 by Grand Master Giovanni Paolo Lascaris of the Knights Hospitaller. It was the first coastal tower to be built at Mellieha during the Hospitaller Rule. It was armed with ½ -pounder cannon and was manned by four men, a captain and three men who were paid by Universita of Imdina.

Ghajn Tuffieha Bay can be reached easily by foot and above you will find plenty of parking places available. It’s a small sandy beach and less crowded perfect for those who wants to escape all hustle and buslte and stay in peace and quite. Sandy beach has a nice stretch of very fine sand and the Mediterranean water over here is clean, clear and fresh. The sea is calm and does not get deep. But do take extra care to occasional underwater currents when the wind blows to the north west.
