This year it’s the 34th edition of Rolex Middle Sea Race is on and attracting once again all the famous yachts from all over the world to gather together for the Malta Royal Yacht Club. All yachts come from every corner of the world and that includes United Kingdom, Russia, Croatia, Czech Republic, Cayman Islands, France, Germany, Israel, Ireland, Italy, Netherlands, Turkey, USA and Switzerland.
The Middle Sea Race is the most prestigious international sporting event on the Maltese Islands. The magnificent show will be starting on the 19th of October from the spectacular Grand Harbour in the waters opposite Saluting Battery in Valletta and Fort St Angelo in Birgu as thousands of people will be gathering together on each side of the harbour to enjoy this exciting and yet thrilling sail.
18 countries has joined for the classic 606 - mile Rolex Middle Sea Race with a total of 107 yachts, which is set to eclipse the record entry of 82 yachts set last year.
And twelve Maltese yachts will also be on the world’s best offshore team and dozen or even more Maltese yachts expected to race, many have been class champions in the recent years.
Veteran competitors Lee Satariano and Christian Ripard’s will be racing Artie-RTFX and hoping to repeat their overall win in 2011.
The 2013 Rolex Middle Sea Race will be the biggest ever gathering hosted by Royal Malta Yacht Club since it was established in 1835. The biggest attendance will be the Rolex Middle Sea Race Crew party. With 2000 members, competitors and guests from overseas and the Maltese community are expected to attend.
